Analytics and privacy

Understanding what is useful

We use Umami Cloud to count pageviews and clicks on the two books’ Amazon links. For each Amazon click, our custom fields record the book, the page path, and the button’s placement. A click is not a confirmed purchase, and we do not receive your Amazon order details.

We also count clicks on links to The Floor Report on Substack, with the page path as the only custom field, views of the two book sample pages, with the book as the only custom field, and the first use of four tools on a visit, with the tool name as the only custom field. What you type into a tool is never sent.

What we send to Umami

The analytics service receives page paths and titles, referring site origins, and technical browser information used for traffic reporting. Network requests also reach Umami’s servers. We remove URL query strings and fragments, reduce referring URLs to their origin, and exclude private promotion, giveaway-redemption, and admin pages from Umami tracking.

We do not send names, email addresses, form entries, or uploaded tool data as analytics event properties. We do not configure visitor identification or session replay. The Umami tracker respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting. Our current free plan retains analytics for up to six months.

Existing site analytics

Vercel Web Analytics also provides the site’s existing traffic reports. Amazon-click events are sent to Umami, not duplicated as Vercel custom events. Vercel’s existing pageview and other tool-event collection remains in place.

Read the providers’ policies: Umami privacy policy and Vercel privacy policy.

Your choices and questions

Free tools and book samples do not require an email signup. If you choose to submit a separate form or follow a link to Amazon or Substack, that action is separate from the click statistics described here. Third-party services have their own privacy practices.
